Hi! I'm Mckenzie

Writer Turned Marketer

Growing up, I was never one of those people that felt like I was born to do something specific. I loved learning and experiencing new things, but I didn’t feel like I had a desire to pursue anything specific in my career. In 8th grade, I remember telling my school counselor that I wanted to be a music teacher. I loved music and how it made me feel. I would write lyrics about love and pain I was experiencing as a 13-year-old going through adolescence.

It wasn’t until high school that my English teacher told me I had a talent for writing. I kind of shrugged it off because my passion was still with music and writing scores for film and television. I decided to take an AP Music Theory class but in exchange, my mom asked me to take AP English, since it was taught by a teacher that changed my sister’s life and my mom thought she would be able to help me find my passion.

To my surprise, AP Music Theory was an extreme challenge and not as much fun as I thought it would be. AP English was almost too easy for me and I blew it off without realizing that there could be a reason for it. It wasn’t until the teacher pulled me aside, asked me if I write in my spare time and I showed her some of the lyrics I had written and shared my passion for music. I specifically remember her looking at me and saying “You know you’re a writer, right?”. For some reason, that question hit me hard and I finally understood what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be a writer.

After different life decisions, challenges, and trials, I finally found where I fit into writing and marketing. Writing is my passion and marketing is my career.

This website is a portfolio of everything I’ve done as an artist and as a marketer, but more specifically as a writer.

Hobbies
Cooking

In my free time, I’m usually cooking something new that I found online or found in some old recipe books passed down from my relatives. Looking in my video history you’ll find a slew of videos from Bon Appetit, Tasty, and Binging with Babish.

Photography

Back in 2015, I started a local magazine called Salt Roads that focused on giving local artists the spotlight. This is when I started concert photography as well as dabbling in fashion photography with my friends.

Gaming

If I have the time, I love playing video games. My dad raised me on Nintendo products and since then I’ve become one of their number one fans. Ask me anything about the Zelda franchise and I might impress (or scare) you with my knowledge.

Music

I once was able to play 6 different instruments, but today I mostly stick with guitar and piano. I was trained in classical piano for 11 years and after 2 years of guitar lessons decided to continue on my own in teaching myself.

Film

After a trip to Universal Studios as an early teen, I knew I wanted to be involved in the film industry. Whether it was being a film director or a musical composer for films, movies had my heart. Even though my career hasn’t gone in that direction, I still love watching new movies and learning more about the industry.

Outdoors

Growing up in Utah, I’ve had the privilege of having some of the most beautiful mountains and national parks right in my backyard. Growing up hiking, camping, exploring, and going on many adventures with my family, I learned to fall in love with the outdoors. I love going out and exploring new areas I haven’t been to before.
